Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid type medication. Mostly used for dermatological conditions such as mild to moderate (comedonal and inflammatory) acne, rosacea, melasma, through different mechanisms of function.

Azelaic acid kills the acne-causing bacteria in the pores of the skin, also decreasing the production of keratin which can promote acne bacteria growth. By inhibiting the conversion of cathelicidin into the anti microbial skin peptide LL37,  it can also be used as a topical treatment for rosacea.
